Recall early this year in august, MTN had accused Globacom of refusing to pay up its interconnect indebtedness and threatened to disconnect Glo subscribers from it service, leading to NCC's intervention which was later resolved.
Well over 29 million Glo subscribers in Nigeria will no longer be able to contact Airtel NG following a ban from the Nigeria Communications Commission (NCC). The regulatory agency said the approval was because of Globacom's failure to settle the interconnected charges owned to Airtel.
The partial disconnection is said to only affect outgoing calls from Glo network to Airtel but Glo users will be able to receive incoming calls from Airtel.
According to a statement released by NCC, Glo was allowed to present its reasons for the indebtedness but however, the reason was not convincing enough to NCC, resulting in the approval of a partial disconnection of Glo from Airtel.
The decision by NCC was taken in accordance with Section 100 of the Nigerian Communications Act 2003 and guidelines on procedure for granting approval to disconnect telecommunications operators.
The date of the pre-disconnection notice is dated October 18th and a 10 days grace period to resolve the debt has been given, which is October 28th.
